Fantastic day Highly recommend for off the beaten path glimpse of countryside

Our guide Huy was terrific perfume pagoda is an authentic less touristy destination. We had a private tour with a comfy van, AC, water provided. It is a long day but highly recommend for the adventurous. A 2 hr drive to the “stream” where we had a gorgeous and peaceful boat trip to the pagoda area. The scenery is magnificent with verdant green jagged limestone mountains on either side. In the early morning the water lilies were open with deep purple burgundy colored blossoms. The boats are not luxurious with seats are very low to the bottom of the boat making it less than comfortable and are rowed by a Vietnamese woman a heroic task. Despite the uncomfortable boat the trip is well worth it. The Vetnamese New Year is only 2 weeks away when this area will be packed. We had very few other boats except those bringing supplies to get ready for the annual festivities. Once you arrive you climb uphill over many steps that are interrupted by walkways, not very difficult to the cable car and up up and away to the area with the cave pagoda. Again a bit of climbing up and downstairs but manageable even for me who is not in the best shape. The perfume pagoda is unique and well worth the trip into the cave. Huy was very educational explaining the meaning of all. After the cable car return trip had a typical Vietnamese lunch, way too much food and visited the more traditional pagoda right next door, a magnificent and the most picturesque pagoda we have so far visited. Return trip was uneventful. Plans originally were to visit a silk factory but we asked them to modify the plans to take us to Bhat Tring the pottery village outside Hanoi proper and Huy and the tour company agreed. We only had a short time there and could have spent hours and many more $ but enjoyed a brief visit and bought 2 exquisite ceramic pieces. I highly recommend this tour off the beaten path.
